The recent omnibus bill, which funds a number of government activities and programs, contained $13 million that will be used to help fund important lupus research and advocacy programs and provide support for educational resources. The funding is part of a larger package of money earmarked for medical research that will be stewarded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Several key lawmakers were strong voices in getting this new funding for lupus research, including Rep. William Keating, Rep. William Keating, and Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. Lupus Foundation of America CEO and President Sandra C. Raymond lauded Congress for allocating more new money to fight lupus, specifically thanking the House Appropriation Committee and organization members who lobbied for the additional funding.
