Unbound focuses its efforts on health, education, and economic initiatives for some of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable populations. Part of the organization’s efforts to uplift and empower individuals is a one-to-one sponsorship model that allows for close tracking of outcomes. Sponsors and their sponsored friends are encouraged to correspond regularly through letters, as well as to write farewell letters when they retire from the program.
In 2012, Unbound conducted a global evaluation of outcomes, relying on these farewell letters to determine the impact of the sponsorship program. The evaluation found that individuals who received letters reported an improved sense of self-esteem, character development, and overall quality of life.
